Custodea is a Dutch company building the data warehouse European SMEs deserve: sovereign by default, simple to run, and owned end-to-end by the businesses that use it.

Every European SME ready for the AI era, running on its own data, kept in Europe, owned end-to-end by the business that creates it.

AI changes who can answer questions, but only if the data is yours to ask. For the past decade, the digital backbone of European business has been quietly rented from somewhere else. The next decade rewards companies that own theirs. Sovereignty is no longer a slogan; it's the precondition for putting AI to work on records you can't risk handing over.

Our mission

Make every European SME AI-ready on infrastructure they own: a private, EU-hosted data warehouse, without a data team, without a US cloud, and without a rewrite of how they already work.

We connect the tools you already use, copy the records into a warehouse in your name, and hand you the keys. From there, your data is ready for Excel and Power BI today and for AI agents and EU-hosted models tomorrow, on the same warehouse, under the same residency guarantees. No exports. No migrations. No surprise sub-processors. Custodea is the path from where you are now to AI-ready, without the trade-offs that usually come attached.

Why we started

We kept meeting the same business owner. A bookkeeper on Exact Online. A recruiter on Carerix. A workforce on Personio. An advisor asking, every quarter, for one more export. The data was already digital. It just lived in ten different boxes, none of them their own.

The American playbook said: pay a US vendor to centralise it for you. The European reality said: that vendor is subject to laws you don't write, in a jurisdiction you don't live in, and your auditor will eventually have questions you can't answer. We started Custodea because the choice between modern tooling and legal certainty is a false one.

Where we are

Custodea is operated by Custodea B.V., registered in Amsterdam. Our infrastructure runs on dedicated EU capacity: primary in Falkenstein, Germany; encrypted backups in Helsinki, Finland. No AWS. No Azure. No Google Cloud. No US sub-processors.

We're a small, focused team. We ship connectors monthly, talk to customers daily, and pick up the phone ourselves when the question is big enough. The first wave of connectors covers the Dutch and German SME stack: Exact Online, AFAS, Nmbrs, SnelStart, DATEV, Personio, Lexware, Carerix. These are the systems the competition never bothered to support properly.

Where we're going

The foundation comes first: connect your software, copy the records into your data lake, hand you the keys. Your data lake is the contract — your BI tools connect to it directly, on day one and on day one thousand. No proprietary query layer, no lock-in.

On top of that foundation, we'll go further. Curated transformations for the systems we know best, so the records arrive ready to query. An insights layer for the questions every SME asks: cash position, customer concentration, hiring runway. And a path to put your sovereign data to work with AI, on EU compute, under the same residency guarantees. Always opt-in. Always built on top of the warehouse you already own.

Alongside depth, breadth: more connectors, more languages, more of the European SME stack covered out of the box. ISO/IEC 27001 in 2026. SOC 2 Type II in 2027. The promise doesn't change. Only how far it can take you.

What we believe

Five principles. They decide every roadmap argument.

Sovereignty is the product.

EU residency, EU operation, EU ownership. Not a region toggle, not a compliance flag. It's the foundation. If a feature requires a US sub-processor, the feature loses.

You own your data, including the schema.

Your BI tools connect directly to your data lake. Your credentials are minted and revoked by you. Leaving Custodea means pointing your tools at a different host. That's the whole offboarding story, by design.

Read-only, always.

Custodea never writes back into your source systems. We can't break your accounting. We can't corrupt your CRM. The blast radius of a bug stops at our warehouse.

Boring infrastructure, on purpose.

JSONL. S3-compatible object storage. Open standards, dull dependencies, and tools your future hires will already know. We optimise for not surprising you.

Pricing you can read in one sitting.

EUR-priced tiers. No usage meters that surprise you on month-end. No salesperson required to learn the price. The website is the price list.
